Okay, for those of you who don’t know my day job revolves around the big G. I generally spend my days, & nights for that matter, with my head buried in analytical data and code. So welcome to my world.

What we’re looking at here is a graph, from 2004 to 2009 of the extrapolated volume of searches on Google, for the terms:
- Breakdance
- Break dance
- Breakdancing
- Break dancing
- bboy
Basically what it demonstrates is that the general public in Australia (NOT B-Boys) are less aware in 2009, of B-Boying or Breaking than they were in 2004.
Now it depends who you ask, but personally I think this is a failure. We as B-Boys and B-Girls have a responsibility to spread the dance and encourage the younger generations to learn and love the dance.
Secondly:
If you notice the search term “Bboy”, is generally around the 20 mark. What this suggests to me is that the number of people who know what the correct term, or at least have heard the correct term for the dance, is stagnant, or in other words the community is at the same level now, as it was in 2004, in terms of numbers.
Thirdly:
You may also notice a small spike in early 2008, that was during “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Fourth:
You may also notice there is a downward trend in general search volume overall. Now I don’t need to spell this one out to you, it’s not a good sign.
Okay, so what can we do?
PROMOTE THE ISH OUT OF B-BOYING TO EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW!
I’m serious..
